A portable N64 that you can play with a friend? What will they think of next?

Thanks for the info! I think I too shall wait on that one until its price point drops. Instead I think I shall invest in The Witcher 2.

The general consensus was that its a solid enough game, but its rather short for an RPG and a bit underwhelming. I played the hell out of the first game, and the second was was pretty good but not nearly as engrossing, so I was kinda disappointed after playing the demo for this one

One of my biggest problems is that you can’t create a character, you pick from 4 pre made characters who are fully voiced and have their own back-stories. I’m really into customization so that’s a big thing for me if that is left out. I want to make my own character, not play as someone the developers came up with.

The combat was decent, a little clunky but it starts to feel better after you get used to the control. The voice acting, especially for the unimportant npcs seems to have taken a turn for the worse; some of the characters even feel like their lines were spoken by google translate or something, Also, even for someone who has played the previous 2 titles in the series, the story is very convoluted and needlessly complex. I’ll probably pick it up once it drops to around 20$, but I’m not paying full price based on what the demo showed me.

I tried so hard to get into the first Witcher, but It couldn’t keep my interest. The combat was clunky, unsatisfying and sloppy. The voice acting was god awful and it was really slow on my computer, for reasons I couldn’t ever figure out.I realize the game was originally made in another language (polish I think), but it just took me out of the experience so much when most of the characters sound like they were voiced by the Ogres from Warcraft II.

That’s it exactly! It looks like an interesting game to say the least. I will await your haiku review before I purchase it. Mostly cause i want to know how terribly hard the puzzles are and if a half wit like me can actually complete them.

There is a fairly interactive demo available. Based on the demo I found the intro puzzle a cake walk, and the ”meat of the game” puzzle, which I understand is the final puzzle for Day 1, to be frustrating but beatable. I am not especially good at puzzle games either.

Saints Row 1 or 2 is an absolute blast. Honestly I can just spend hours shooting up the city and driving like a maniac rather than doing any quests. Although the quests are a blast as well. It’s a game I go back to when I just want to lose myself.

Also in both games you get to make a character of your own choosing. Although in 2 you can make a female character. So if you have always wanted to shoot up the city as a very hormonally unbalanced female now you can!

Played the first few hours of Duke Nukem Forever and have found… I never really missed the Duke Nukem franchise all that much. I would rather be playing Doom II instead. Thank goodness I bought the complete Doom pack on the Steam. Time to murder me some demons!!

I got bored with GTAIV, as well. I haven’t been really hooked by a GTA since San Andreas.

Is Saint’s Row really that good? I’ve never played any of them.

Saints row encompasses everything they forgot to put into GTA IV: fun. IV was pretty lacking for one of the most anticipated games of this console generation, the game was solid, the physics were superb, but they forgot to have fun with it, put too much time into making cars that drove like they had a walrus sitting on the hood. Saints row 3 looks to be as big of an improvement on 2 as 2 was to the first one, however with all the new ridiculous gameplay changes I hope they don’t cut down on the story.

Cool, I’m gonna have to give those a try.

Should I start with the first Saint’s Row, or would it be best to start with the second?

I truly believe any gamer worth his salt needs to start a series from the beginning. The story will make a lot more sense and you will feel more invested in it if you start from the first one. Be warned though, the first one is pretty difficult.

Saint’s Row 1, that I know of, only exists on (pre-360) X-Box, which may or may not make it playable for you. 2 does a good enough job of recapping the crucial story elements that it isn’t necessary to play to still enjoy SR 2.

Playing Mario Kart Wii on WFC worldwide reminds me of 1 thing, I still hate that damn blue shell. And I am not as good at this game as I think I am. This also raises a question: What is your favorite power up/projectile power in Mario Kart Wii?

I have been attempting to play Jamestown on the steam. I find my reflexes aren’t very good, but this flying shooter game provides quite a fun and challenging experience. Think 1942, the game, only many many more bullets and things flying at you. The music in it is excellent and the story it tells is very original and well done. Other than the fact that it is astonishingly hard even on normal difficulty it is still worth a pick up and play for your gaming pleasure. And at only $6.69 on steam it is certainly worth that amount and more. Thus ends my review of Jamestown. Catch youse all on the flip side!

I have always wondered this. To play Gran Turismo or the other driving sim racing kind of games should I plonk down $99.99 for a driving wheel to enjoy them more? Or are these game just as enjoyable with just a regular PS3 controller?

      reasonmpw · 10 months, 3 weeks ago

I really don’t think wheels are worth it- controllers are fine. If you’re looking to branch into more core racers though, the question is whether GT5 is for you- it has its moments but isn’t particularly accessible thanks in part to the uneven ness created by the convoluted dev process it went through (and still is going through with its content patches ). If you have access to a 360, forza is a better way to go in my opinion.

    • Avatar Image
      2πr · 10 months, 3 weeks ago

The whole point of GT5, to my mind, has always been to achieve as much simulation as possible, so I would get a wheel if you are serious about GT5 per se. Any other racer is fine with a thumbstick, and some are better (I’m looking at you Blur and Mod Nation)

I love steering wheels and at one time (or maybe even still) I had the $300+ wheel on my wishlist. Wheels do take some time to get used to and as 2 to the Pi to the R mentioned, the game has to be created with wheels in mind. You really need a game with an excellent cockpit view or an arcade classic like Outrun although I’m really not sure how that works with an analog type input.

GT5 was developed side by side with some wheels, do a bit of YouTubing and make sure the wheel can work with GT5, some are compatible with both the PeeCee and the PS3 which would increase the value of the wheel.

With this abscessed tooth I can think of only one thing to make the pain less prevalent. Time for some PSP goodness! Perhaps some Legend of Heroes: A tear of Vermilion or Jeanne D’Arc or even some Patapon. With those choices I can’t go wrong. Well at least I think so anyway.

      I think I don’t care:

10 years ago I was chatting with a teenager who was part of an online RPG I was involved with. He mentioned that he had never heard of Pac-Man. When I described the game to him, he suddenly said ”oh THAT thing. Yeah, I saw my dad playing that in emulation on his computer. Looked kind of…primitive.”

      I died a little inside.

I am not on speaking terms with Bethesda after how poorly New Vegas performed when I played it in my PS3. I just hope Skyrim doesn’t have the same glitch issues that New Vegas presented to me.
