So, who has XBL and Pinball FX2? I’m looking for some tougher competition than my current friend list can give me.
I think most of us have it…Im Kenduddly on XBL …Mike Izzy is really good and Agent Albacore is the f’ing king of that game.
Nice. I’m RoboDUke on XBL. I’ll shoot ya an invite.
Sweet…Im sure the others will post their gamertags once they see this.Allot of the WTGers play pinball FX.
I am Ultimorich, not sure how much competition I will be but I enjoy the game, will add you.
Anyone else on here have Pinball FX2 for 360? Me and all my friends got a great rivalry going on as we keep one-upping each others scores.

If you’re looking for some pinball in the NJ area, nothing beats this place in Asbury Park: http://silverballmuseum.com/
I only spent a 1/2 hour there recently, and it wasn’t enough time to try a fourth of the machines they have at their location. I’m definitely making a trip back out there as soon as possible.

All I want to hear is that Pinbot and Bride of Pinbot will be coming out for this game.

I have the feeling if the We Talk Games crew can’t help me here, no one can. Has anyone played Pachinko Challenger for the SNES? I think I’ve got a decent handle on the actual Pachinko parts, but my total lack of Japanese understanding has me confused if there’s any greater goal to the game.
The bad news is you’ve most likely seen the whole game. Put in money, watch a few hundred ball stutter around the screen, trey to make things spin to get more balls and money, get to a higher level.
The good news is, all the pachinko games for the SNES stink so you didn’t just pick a bad one.
Coconuts makes the best pachinko titles in my opinion and they have a few on the SNES (SFC). They created the Pachinko Wars series and even have three Pachio Kun titles, the same in the series I mention for the PC Engine. Pachio Kun Special 3 is the strongest title (although there is plenty of Japanese text as in the others) but, all of them are pretty devoid of the interesting stories that the PC Engine has. Plus, the most interesting element on the PC Engine titles is the use of the pachinko controller.
Moving a little dot with a digital cross pad to control the power of an onscreen pachinko trigger took away everything that a fella like me could find charming. It was the controller that really made me want to invest time in the PC Engine titles and then the whacky stories and animation really drew me in.
Now, if you do dig Challenger and want to explore more, Pachio Kun 3 and Pachinko War 2 are your best bet. Just realize that you still may have no clue as to what the goal is or how to know when you’re through (or in the case of War 2, how to get out of the first casino). But, unlike Challenger, both titles use a save feature, having to type in an all Japanese password makes Challenger a great bookshelf conversation piece.

WeTalkGames has recently shown me the awesome that is pinball, and I have found a great place to play some classic pins.
If you live on the East Coast, and can make the drive to Seaside Heights, NJ, be sure to check out Carousel Family Entertainment. Sadly, they don’t have a website, but here is their Google maps page: http://maps.google.com/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Carousel+Family+Entertainment&fb=1&gl=us&hq=Carousel+Family+Entertainment&hnear=0×89c15f30f1d145af:0×10b08a31ae3e58b3,Mercerville-Hamilton+Square,+NJ&cid=18173976930671043820
They have a great line of pinball machines there, including Pinbot, Hercules, and Earthshaker. There is also an old school arcade filled with classics like Robotron, 2 different Spaced Invaders machines, Ms. Pac-Man, Tetris, and Punch-Out. The only downside is they have raised the prices on some of the machines. It cost me 50 cents to paly Robotron, which is just wrong, but still worth it.
And if you like Skeeball, this is the only place on the boardwalk that has the real deal with wooden lanes and wooden skeeballs. None of that modern, plastic flim-flam here!
I just visited the arcade this week, and I’m sure I will be there again before the summer is over. Be sure to check it out if you’re in the area!

I moved to Austin, Texas in January, and finally got over to Pinballz Arcade which has both a stupid name and an awesome selection of pinball tables. I’ve been there twice this week, and it’s quickly becomin a bit of an obsession, which is a little shocking as I’ve never really been into pinball before. I’m in the process of working back through the WTG archives re-listening to the pinball episodes. It looks like it’s been a bit since anyone’s posted about pinball here, but I thought I’d just pop in and say I’m definitely in the middle of a pinball rennaissance!
That’s super! It really is so good to push a table around and have that type of interaction.
The world of video games has really exploded over the past few years and we’ve all been playing them more than ever before. Playing some pins is a great way to clean your palette after our relentless controller mashing.
I truly hope more places will take a chance on putting some machines in place so more of the younger generation might be able to understand it better and see why we talk about it so much.
They’ve also got an UltraPin machine, for sale, and I totally understand why you’re building your own. Ridiculously pricey.
Yes, and they no longer make them. There was a fella in PA that was selling one on eBay for around 2 grand which is the lowest I’ve ever seen one but still way out of my price range. You can mod them and even put a faster computer in it.
The only trouble with building your own system is that you have to rely on Nanotech for the board and parts like the plunger and motion sensor. Their service absolutely sucks, I waited about 2 months for my parts and they kept telling me it was coming next week, it’s coming next week. When I finally received my package, it was a rat’s nest and I’ll be replacing each wire one by one in the future.
Fortunately, the guys at http://VPForums.org are going to stock some of those parts and they’re very reliable. They also provide crafted tables, they are even more expensive than UltraPin if you get a full kit but, if you take into account that any new actual pinball machine costs $4,500, and you happen to have that kind of loot, a virtual system for that much is a pretty good deal. If you watch YouTube videos of some folks with crazy home arcade loot they usually have MAME and a Virtual Pin right next to real tables and arcade games.

UltraPin is no more however, the VPForums have picked up the desire to virtual pin at home. http://www.vpforums.org/index.php?s=a52de1c32fbf2757cff4bec975c5685a&showtopic=10261
Although it is still too pricey for me, I have begun to build my own three quarter system that should feature bump sensing as well as an analog plunger.

I got a chance to play Stern’s ”Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” Pinball Table this past weekend at, yes, ”Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” in N.Y.C. $0.50 per play, but only three quarters working. It gives you your second and third ball at the same time. ”Free multi-ball!” you say? Not quite. Try ”instant-drain” instead. I’ll post a couple pictures soon.

Pinballers (21+ y.o.) in or visiting the Brooklyn, New York area; check out the ”Satellite Lounge.” A small, bottle beer bar that offers 5 to 6 rotating pins from the owner’s collection. $0.75 per play. Some photos are in my album. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Brooklyn-NY/Satellite-Lounge/152302794237
