I would have been loving my Dreamcast! Egg, Shenmue, Soul Caliber… PC I was still geeking out with Civilization 2. Probably still playing Uncharted Waters:New Horizons 2… that game had me hooked for a long time.

Was Sega still out? I think that was still popular at the time. Although, my brothers might have been playing Playstation 1 on their friends systems. Not so sure. That might have been the year when I was determined to beat Sonic (yes, the first game) but failed miserably.
I think you’re mixing for 1999’s with your 1996’s. 1996 was cool though. Cartridges were phasing-out and CD’s were phasing in, which kicked off -what dorks call- the ”Fifth Generation” of video-game consoles; which ended in 1999. So I guess it’s relevant. Bit of a stretch.
Dude, I am just recalling from memory! I have no clue!
Clearly.

I remember walking into a Funcoland with my Dad one Sunday, and seeing a Japan Dreamcast. Sega Rally was on and it literally MELTED OUR FACES with the graphics on that thing. Safe to say, when 9.9.99 rolled around I was very happy. I was all dreamcast by the end of the year. Sonic Adventure was epic. Many of the sports games were decent as well. Monkeyball, i believe was out as well. But it was mostly trying to beat sonic and keeping up with my damn VMU and chao kids! But when October 7th hit, Marvel vs Capcom Clash of the Superheros rounded off my year!

’99 I was a junior in high school and between work and trying to get girls I was fortunate enough to find some time for gaming. I believe I was just finishing up FFXII (late start on a borrowed copy) and because I had what was basically a full time job and no bills I was able to afford games unlike now (adulthood for the loss). I Played a ton of Goldeneye with my buddies and even tho it was a pretty ugly game to look at Duke Nukem Zero hour. Also Mario Kart 64 was a big after school favorite. On the PS1 tip I picked up a copy of Kagero: Deception and had a blast with it. I had finished RE2 in the middle of the previous year and because I missed it the first time around I played a used copy of RE1, until the third one came out later in ’99. I’m sure there were several others. I was heavy into older Nintendo emulation and some PC games. ’99 was a year for re-visits and digging up old treasures for me. The anticipation of the PS2 was heavy and I have always been a fan of looking back to the old and sometimes forgotten treasures of a seemingly lost era as I prepare myself for a journey into the promising unknown.

I played alot of Final Fantasy XII. I didn’t own a PS1. But all my friend’s owned one and a copy of FF7. So I bought my own memory card so I can continue my game no matter who’s PS1 and copy of FF7 it was. Unfortunately I wasn’t told that Square games ONLY save on the default Sony memory cards. My data got corrupted every time. As a result, to date, I haven’t even gotten through disc 1. So I haven’t seen Sephiroth kill Aeris…SPOILER!!!
I had a similar experience with ”Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic,” which I beat on a friend’s ”Xbox” before he did.
I remember playing that on a friend’s xbox also. He wasn’t nearly as engaged in it as I was. I remember figuring out the Sith academy puzzle thing near the end of that planet for him. KOTOR II is probably one of my most played games of all time, comes in second place to TES Morrowind.
Oh no!! That sucks.

I was probably playing Crash Bandicoot games on ma ps1. And Smackdown!, if it was out then, i don’t recall.
Close, Smackdown! was released early in 2000. We were still making do with WWF Attitude in 1999.
Darn it. Well, a year ain’t too bad. I remember WWF Attitude. Don’t remember much about it though, except that i got it really late.
Let me remind you : Left – Right – Left – Down – Square = Finishing Move (sometimes)
AAAAAH!!!! I remember now. You had to pause it and go to the Moves List and to do anything that wasn’t a punch it was a crazy combination of buttons you had to press. AND i could never work out which ones it was actually saying to press. I hated that.
Thankfully Smackdown! took it in the right direction.
indeed. I remember thinking how awesome and innovative that game was.

I distinctly and fondly remember beating the collective hole off of my buddies in ”Soul Calibur” for the ”Dreamcast,” during a New Years Eve party. It was Dec. 31st 1999. Voldo for the win.

Most likely Driver, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Silent Hill and WWF Attitude on the PlayStation and Unreal Tournament on the PC.
